Industrial heat pumps designed in Navi Mumbai, for plants across the Mumbai region
If you are comparing heat pump manufacturers in Mumbai for process heat, Tetra Heat Pump is made by Promethean Energy Private Limited, and the machines are designed and specified at our base in Navi Mumbai. Tetra Heat Pump units give continuous process heat up to 120°C with ±0.5°C control, in single machines up to 1,450 kW. That covers the hot water, washing, CIP and drying duties that chemical, pharmaceutical, engineering and food plants around Mumbai run below 120°C. Send us your fuel and MSEDCL bills with a list of your heating duties, and our engineers will tell you which of them a heat pump can take.
Two local facts carry most of the case in Maharashtra. The MSEDCL HT-I energy charge is ₹8.44/kVAh in FY2026-27, with an approved path down to ₹7.45/kVAh by FY2029-30, whereas industrial gas is priced on imported LNG. And the engineers who configure your machine work in the same region as your plant.
What is done at our Navi Mumbai base?
Design and specification. Our engineers in Navi Mumbai decide the configuration for each duty, i.e. air source, water source or cascade, how many units, and where the machine ties into your pipework. The same company designs, builds and services the machines. Hence the company that quotes your project is also the one that commissions it.
Design and engineering, and the configuration of each project.
Technical sales for the Maharashtra belts, Chakan and Ranjangaon included.
Service engineering, covering the northern clusters.
For a plant in Thane, Raigad or Palghar district, being near the design office helps at two points. At the survey, the questions that decide the project are settled with the engineers who will specify the machine: which duty goes first, where the tie-in goes, and how the heat pump runs alongside your boiler in the first year. At commissioning, a change to a set point or to the control logic goes back to the same people.
Our published service response is 24 to 48 hours, wherever the plant is. The service network page sets out what that covers and what spares are held, and the about page has the company record. Plants in the Chakan and Ranjangaon belts have a page of their own.
Which plants around Mumbai run duties a heat pump can take?
The industrial belts around Mumbai are mostly chemical, pharmaceutical and engineering units. These are the Thane-Belapur MIDC belt, Taloja, Dombivli and Ambernath, and Tarapur further north in Palghar district. Add the city's hotels, hospitals and food units, and many of the heating duties in the region are hot water well below 120°C.
| Duty | Temperature | Tetra Heat Pump |
|---|---|---|
| Aqueous jacketed reactors | To 88°C | In range |
| Low-boiler and solvent recovery reboilers | 60 to 110°C | In range |
| Drying | 60 to 120°C | In range |
| Purified water and WFI loop sanitisation | 80 to 95°C | In range |
| CIP | To 100°C | In range |
| HVAC reheat after dehumidification | Hot water | In range |
| Alkaline degrease | 55 to 80°C | In range |
| Zinc phosphating | 50 to 60°C | In range |
| Guest hot water | 45 to 70°C | In range |
| Laundry | 60 to 85°C | In range |
| Synthesis | 150 to 300°C | Stays on the existing heater |
| SIP and autoclaves | 121 to 134°C, pure steam | Stays on the boiler |
| Paint bake ovens | 140 to 200°C | Stays on the existing plant |
In a pharma plant, the largest of these loads is usually HVAC reheat after dehumidification, and it is overlooked because it is buried in the AHUs. Any change to a qualified utility triggers requalification, so the first project is usually placed outside the classified area. In a chemical plant the design question is the batch load profile, since a machine sized for the peak will run badly at part load for the rest of the cycle. Please send the batch log along with the peak figure.
Duties that need pure steam or run above 120°C stay on your boiler or thermic fluid heater, and the heat pump takes the hot water duties off it. We go through each duty on our chemical and pharmaceutical industry pages.
What have Tetra Heat Pump installations done on duties like these?
The engineering units in the belt run the same pre-treatment baths and booth air as any painting line. Our two automotive installations are the closest proof for them.
A 1.5 MW paint shop pre-treatment line
lower energy cost for the pre-treatment heating duty
of CO2 avoided a year
simple payback
The heat pump took alkaline degrease at 55 to 80°C, zinc phosphating at 50 to 60°C, the hot rinses and paint shop AHU reheat, while every oven stayed on the existing plant. Energy cost for that duty fell by 65%, the installation avoids 400 tonnes of CO2 a year, and simple payback was 18 months. It is more than one machine, as a single unit goes up to 1,450 kW. The paint shop case study has the full duty list.
A 600 kW unit on paint booth climate
installation
booth temperature held
booth humidity held
On another automotive plant, a 600 kW Tetra Heat Pump holds the paint booths at 26°C and 60% RH for every hour they are in use. A pharmaceutical cleanroom asks the same of its air handling. For the pharma units around Taloja and Tarapur, this paint booth installation is the nearest reference.
Hotels and dairies
A 200-room resort moved its guest hot water, laundry and pool heating to a Tetra Heat Pump and cut heating cost by 70%, avoiding 250 tonnes of CO2 a year. On a 900 kW liquid milk dairy, the heat pump uses refrigeration heat the plant was already rejecting to feed the 85 to 90°C pasteuriser loop. The hotel and dairy studies apply directly to the city's hotels and food units.
What does the MSEDCL tariff do to the case against gas?
On HT-I you pay ₹8.44/kVAh in FY2026-27 and ₹650/kVA/month in demand charge, plus electricity duty and any time-of-day adjustment. The approved path takes the energy charge down to ₹7.45/kVAh by FY2029-30. Industrial PNG, on the other hand, is priced on imported LNG. So moving a hot water duty off gas means moving from the Asian LNG market onto a price the state regulator has already fixed for the next few years.
Please note that HT-I is billed per kVAh, so a plant at poor power factor pays more for each useful kWh than ₹8.44 suggests. A heat pump compressor adds inductive load, hence size APFC along with the heat pump; the PF correction can recover part of the installation cost by itself.
Breakeven COP is the point where the heat pump and the fuel it replaces cost the same to run. At ₹8.44/kVAh:
| Fuel replaced | Price | Breakeven COP |
|---|---|---|
| PNG, Gujarat industrial rate | ₹68/SCM | 1.17 |
| Furnace oil | ₹71.99/kg | 1.10 |
| Light diesel oil | ₹107.65/litre | 0.67 |
| Coal, delivered | ₹6,000/tonne | 4.35 |
Independent measurement in Indian conditions puts heat pump COP at approx. 2.26 at 110°C output, and it is higher at hot water temperatures. Against gas, furnace oil and LDO the heat pump is well ahead on running cost. Against delivered coal on grid power it loses, and there the case rests on compliance, air quality and labour.
The Mumbai PNG rate of ₹51.50/SCM on price websites is the household rate. Your contract rate is considerably higher, so a calculation on ₹51.50 understates your saving. Send us your gas contract rate with one MSEDCL bill and we will work out your breakeven. The full working and the PNG comparison are on our blog.
Will your MSEDCL sanctioned load take the heat pump?
A heat pump adds electrical load equal to its heat output divided by its COP. So the first check is the headroom between your sanctioned demand and the highest maximum demand on twelve months of bills. In many plants that gap already covers the machine, and where it does not, our team works out the enhancement with you. The load enhancement procedure is here.
Does the hot water loop need IBR registration in Maharashtra?
Not below 100°C. Maharashtra's Directorate of Steam Boilers counts equipment heating water below 100°C as a hot water generator, with no registration, no annual certificate and no certified attendant on every shift. Above 100°C a vessel of 25 litres or more can fall within the definition, and the Directorate decides it case by case. Our article on replacing steam with hot water shows which duties can make the move.
